Instruction in Chen Old Frame First Routine Taijiquan Form (75 Form) At Twin Lakes Spring-Autumn
I started my training in 2012 with Master Du Xinsheng, Arthur Du, in a taijiquan class (24 form) sponsored by the Confucius Institute on the MU campus. I continued as his student for the past eleven years studying multiple taijiquan and xingyiquan empty hand and weapons forms and several qigong forms as well. I became active with Columbia Taiji in 2013-mornings at the Armory.
I am currently teaching a taijiquan walking stick form to a small group and will continue teaching the Chen Old Frame First Routine Taijiquan Form (75 Form) at Twin Lakes in the spring. I continue to study with Master Du weekly, focusing on the Chen New Frame First Routine (83 Form).
I studied and practiced taijiquan for about 8 years in the late 1970’s but began my serious study when I was 61 and feel that, even beginning a bit late, I have seen benefits, mental and physical, from daily practice and study. My instruction focuses on form for health benefits (not martial arts) and is slow and detail oriented. Taijiquan is mostly biomechanics, physiology and philosophy; not magic. Progress/success requires dedicated study and repetitive and consistent practice. The road is long, but it only takes a few steps every day to move along.
